Sustainability in the Region
Although the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council remains the most widely used rating system for buildings on a global scale, other rating systems also possess specific qualities making them unique in their own way. BREEAM (United Kingdom), GREEN STAR (Australia), DGNB (Germany) are other notable rating systems also currently in USE.
The United Arab Emirates remains at the forefront in the region for sustainable projects in the GCC and have continued to show increased efforts in its ambitions by the Introduction of ESTIDAMA, a Rating System devised by Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council and AL SAFAT, a Rating System recently introduced by the Dubai Municipality in 2016.
